Chris King headsets have been the industry benchmark for 35 years — ever since the company created the first sealed bearing headset in 1976. This InSet 2 Headset is built upon that tradition, though it has different dimensions and style to fit current frame specs. It’s designed for bike frames that require a tapered, semi-integrated (zero stack) headset. We’re not sure why it took Chris King so long to begin manufacture of their InSet. When we bought our first bike frames that required semi-integrated headsets, we wanted Chris King quality, even if the always luscious polished and anodized parts were going to be mostly obscured by the headtube of the frame. They’re available in all configurations now, and the good news is that the InSet headset is like all other King headsets — it will probably last longer than the frame you’ll install it in. From the saddle, you’ll get a view of that coveted logo on the top bearing assembly and steerer cap to remind you of your inspired purchase. All parts of the InSet 2 Headset are machined in-house in Chris King’s Portland facility, from the aluminum cups to the stainless steel sealed cartridge bearings. The bearings are pressed into alloy cups that are then pressed into the headtube. The difference between an InSet headset like this one and NoThreadset is that, here, the bearings are housed inside the headtube. The InSet 2 offers the same quality and precision that you’ve always expected from King parts, and the upper bearing cover uses their new GripLock compression ring assembly. The Chris King InSet 2 Headset will mate a tapered fork steerer to a bike with a headtube having a 44mm ID top and 56mm ID bottom dimensions. You can also use a straight 1-1/8″ fork if you use a 1.5 Devo baseplate (sold separately). Black only.

  • Material: [stem, faceplate] carbon fiber, [bolts] titanium
  • Length: 90mm, 100mm, 110mm, 120mm, 130mm, 140mm
  • Rise: 12
  • Steer Tube Diameter: 1.125in
  • Bar Attachment: 4-bolt

When it was first unveiled, the peculiar shape of Zipp’s SL Sprint Carbon Stem may have seemed a bit out of place when juxtaposed with traditional, tubular models. Now, assymetrical stems like it are common place because the SL Sprint’s shaping and unidirectional carbon construction transmit power with efficient confidence in even the most hectic bunch finales. The faceplate and bolts are titanium, which helps keep the stem in the climber’s weight category, despite its sprinting pedigree.
